Dan Horne
FOUNDER & DIRECTOR
Dan drives the vision and overarching strategy for Lunar FX. From his base near London, he has oversight on all studio projects, personally supervising the UK-based productions. He ensures all work meets the highest technical quality and that client data is secure. Committed to the future of the industry, Dan has Lectured in VFX at Stafford University and is a Consultant and Guest Lecturer at the National Film and Television School.
Sam Hanover
Project Director
Based in Austria, Sam is responsible for managing all European projects. He oversees these end-to-end, building client relationships and ensuring our work meets the highest technical quality and delivery standards. Globally, Sam provides essential support to the day-to-day running of the company and supervises global projects when needed.
Our Story
Throughout their careers, Dan and Sam progressed from matchmove and layout artists to lead and supervisory roles at some of London’s most established VFX studios.
During their time at these facilities, they both witnessed the growing reliance on outsourced work, often resulting in missed deadlines, inconsistent quality, and the downstream impact of imperfect camera data on both schedules and shot costs.
Through years of production experience, they recognised the critical value of having a core team of highly experienced senior artists. Time and again, it proved that precise camera tracking and object data form the foundation of every successful and cost-effective VFX shot.
Seeing an opportunity to approach this differently, Dan and Sam set out to build an agile, senior-led facility, one designed specifically to tackle the complex work that traditional outsource vendors often struggle with. A team that could operate flexibly, either as a high-end outsource partner or embedded directly within existing production teams.
In 2020, Lunar FX was founded with this vision.
Today, Dan and Sam jointly lead the company, combining their experience in matchmove, layout and supervision to guide the studio’s technical direction and production strategy.
Operating from the UK and Europe, including Lunar FX’s satellite base in Austria, they oversee projects globally, delivering accurate cameras and layouts with exceptional speed, reliability, and scalability.
